Establishing Residency in Texas:
If you have just moved to Texas, learn about the easiest way you can establish residency through obtaining a Texas Driver’s License or other form of State ID. Note that you must surrender an ID from another state or at least have lived in Texas for 30 days upon application. You can also still register to vote without a state ID, but we recommend you put your phone number on the voter registration form in case the clerk has any questions or requires additional documentation.
Furthermore, Texas Voter Registration requirements also requires you to register to vote in the county in which you reside and vote, so make sure you keep this in mind when going through the ID process. You can easily update this online too if you are already a Texas resident. Reminder: Contact us if you have any questions or encounter any difficulties – we can help.
See If You’re Already Registered
You can check to see your voter registration status through the Secretary of State’s “My Voter Portal.” Information could be outdated if you have moved to a different address or changed your name. See instructions below for updating such information, or just visit the My Voter Portal now to do so. Reminder: Contact us if you have any questions or encounter any difficulties – we can help.
How to Register or Update Registration
The Voter Registrar for Presidio County is also the Tax Assessor-Collector, Nancy Valdez Arevalo: phone, 432-729-4081 | mail, PO Box 848 Marfa, Texas 79843. Their office is in the Presidio County courthouse, first on the left when you walk through the main entrance: 301 Highland St. Marfa, TX 79843.
Here are a few options to register or update your information:
Get a voter registration form at the Presidio County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office, your local library, or us! Or contact the Tax Assessor-Collector’s office to receive one.
We can help with one of our volunteer deputy voter registrars! Just email us to schedule a time, visit, and/or phone call. We’ll bring a voter registration form to you and even deliver it for you!
Use Texas’ My Voter Portal for instructions on how to perform updates such as name changes or addresses for voter registration. You can also write or call the Presidio County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office.
When renewing your Texas Driver’s License or other State ID, you can also update your voter registration (go here to the Texas DPS website). Be sure to check the My Voter Portal after a few days (or up to 30 days later) to see if it has been updated, too.
There is a online program through the Secretary of State where you can fill out a voter registration form here, print, sign, and mail it to them. However, this is a lengthy process with mail delivery times, so get started as soon as possible.
